A spring evening rain storm descends on the rugged granite peaks of the eastern Sierra Nevada as seen from Highway 395 in the Owens Valley of California.
I was almost, but not quite lost. I knew where I was, but hadn't found where I wanted to go. I had just driven through the town of Independence, California looking for a campground. Independence is a really small town, and I figured that finding the campground would be easy. I was through town in a heartbeat and suddenly driving north into a weather system trying to push its way over the Sierra Nevada. I pulled off of Highway 395 to take another look at my map when I saw the hard rain start to fall. This image was made just before I turned around and easily found the campsite at Independence where settled in for a comfortable night.
